A recent survey of organisations employing more than 100 staff in the UK revealed that around 80% have a formal performance appraisal system. However, the survey indicated that only 20% of those same organisations were satisfied that their appraisal process was working effectively and delivering sustained performance benefits.
We have helped a number of clients to review, modify and (where necessary) re-launch their performance management system, to secure real improvements in the way they plan, monitor, assess and reward performance.
The introduction of a new (or substantially-modified) system may require bespoke training for managers on how to use the process and documentation. A complementary programme for staff – aimed at equipping them with the understanding and skills to make the performance and development review a genuinely two-way process – may also prove very beneficial.
